No matter how many times I recount Tshava’s tale, I am always greeted by looks of amazement from my friends. A graduate of medical school, Tshava is the embodiment of the African dream: an unwavering sense of self-belief and desire to succeed lifting him out of poverty and putting him on the path to a success. Tshava’s life was never easy – neither through financial nor emotional terms was he ever able to experience safety. Not only was ‘home’ a loosely applied term to an array of military bases, but childhood for Tshava was rife with poverty, hunger, and horrible tragedies after losing his mother at the age of two, the death of his sister and father soon followed. An unshakable faith in God, education, and a tangible dream became his saviour: Tshava was going to become a doctor. The young orphan had first turned to our organisation as a middle school student, receiving our aid and guidance throughout his time in medical school.
As unbelievable as it may seem, the Tshava of today is ready to start his professional calling as a doctor – specifically a pediatrician – as he enters his final months of practice at the Bondeko Catholic Clinic.
