Upon arrival ...

2012. December 22.

It was a pleasure to see all the familiar faces again and have my dear host's red beans and steamed cabbage for lunch again. Up to this date it is still a mystery to me how red beans are eaten with pineapple and bananas. I was touched when I noticed that the kids were wearing the clothes that we brought last year, and still had the cuddly toys in the room. I spent the afternoon with the kids. We decorated the communal space of the orphanage with large stickers , and the numbers stuck to the wall demonstrated that children have improved a lot over a year, and I enjoyed the fact that I could become a little kid, and sang along with them in the English alphabet. The colored bath towels, Hungarian homemade sweets and chalk on asphalt and put a smile on their faces.
The evening dinner turned into a long conversation about the economic problems of African countries, David, dr. Kabati, the village doctor, my host's nephew, also joined in. I was surprised when I found out that David during his studies had learnt about European history and I thought to myself that this boy should be in one of the European universities, and I would help him to find a Hungarian scholarship.
